DIY Photobooth

We had a pretty rad photobooth at the wedding. We knew early on it was a detail we wanted, but we also knew that renting one of those pre-fab, fan-dangled things wasn’t in our budget. For a minute we thought about using something like this, or setting up our laptop to run a photobooth program, but both seemed complicated. Then, I got luck, really, really lucky. Last winter I won a Drop It Modern photo backdrop from photographer Elizabeth Messina’s blog Kiss the Groom (which I think is oddly funny since I didn’t actually have a groom…) I asked my dad to create something to hang the backdrop from and we used a tripod to hold my dSLR which was manned by one of my sister budding-photographer friends. It worked really well and I love the photos. The only thing I might have done differently is found a way to have some lighting. It was perfect until the sun went down and then the photos get a little dark.

Since I wasn’t actually part of the setting up of the backdrop I’m not completely sure how it was finally done, but I think they used the polls from our volleyball net and some clamps to hold everything in place. It wasn’t anything fancy, we didn’t spend any money (except a little thank you for our photographer friend), and it work really well. Photobooths don’t have to be complicated or expensive. I set up a photobooth at a friend’s wedding last weekend and used an old playhouse/shed at the backdrop. I hung some curtains in the window with some potted plants and set up a point-and-shoot. Guests went in the house and stuck their heads out the window while other people clicked the shutter. Also, free and super cute photos!

A Little Blog Love

While I was off coordinating another rocking lesbian wedding this weekend, dancing like there was no tomorrow, and drinking like I wouldn’t have to wake-up the next day, our wedding photos were getting a little blog love! Thanks to Tracy from A Bicycle Built for Two and Erica from Bella Figura Letterpress for sharing the love.

New Normal & A Bridal Shower

Getting married is hard, well let me rephrase that, recovering from getting married is hard. I fully expected to jump right into telling you all about the details and how it all came together, but it’s taking me a while to figure out a new “normal”. My mother-in-law reminded me to keep what normal is in perspective. I realized I don’t think Alaina and I know what life looks like post-graduate school, post-wedding, post-young adulthood. So, while we figure all of that out I wanted to go back and recap a few events leading up the wedding which I completely ran out of time to post. The days just before the wedding I was thinking “no, no, it can’t be here this soon, I had so much more to blog about!” So, with that I give you my bridal shower!

I have the most amazing friends. Really. They went so far above and beyond with my bridal shower it will take some serious butt kicking on my part to “repay” them when the time comes. (Which by the way, I am so excited for!!!) They paid so much attention to every little detail and Heather and my mom went all out with the food for an amazing brunch.

I asked my sister and Lisa to be both be my maids of honor since they both have such a significant, yet very different, role in my life. Lisa’s partner Heather is a big wedding buff and jumped at the opportunity to put her secretive bridal magazine browsing to use. I am in total awe of the three of them. I made some vague comments about a brunch and the rest the put together from my Pinterest boards. Amazing, creative and awesome.

We played a rousing game of “Who knows Liz & Alaina best” and my mother beat my sister by a significant margin! Alaina narrowly came away with the win, but only by one point over, guess who, my mother! Apparently she has been listening all these years. Heather then lead us in a competitive T.P. Bridal Fashion Show.

These ladies did some impressive things with toilet paper! Look at those flowers on Stephanie’s dress, I’m pretty sure these T.P. dresses were more lovely than some real bridal gowns I’ve seen. It was a truly wonderful party, it was such a joy to be there with some of the most amazing women (and Chris!) in my life. Such a special day.

There are many more wedding photographs coming, but this sneak peek Ashley Forrette sent me made me cry. Grandpa is flying home today but I will always be eternally grateful that he came.

We’re off on our honeymoon today. I probably won’t post anything until we get back so have a good week!

Todays photographs aren’t actually from my lens, I’ve been looking through family photos to find wedding photographs for display at the wedding. I absolutely love these two pictures. The first one is of Alaina’s grandmother on her wedding day, the second is a snap shot of my grandparents shortly after they were married.
